Conficker Worm Is Attack!
HOT NEWS
According to many source that I read today, I just know that there will be a conficker attack on April 1st, 2009. So, prepare all of you, Internet Marketing Indonesia, from this worm’s attack. I will give you some information about Conficker and I hope it will help you to protect your computer from this worm’s attack.
What is Conficker?
Wikipedia’s said :
Conficker, also known as Downup, Downadup and Kido, is a computer worm that surfaced in October 2008 and targets the Microsoft Windows operating system. The worm exploits a previously patched vulnerability in the Windows Server service used by Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 Beta, and Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta. The worm has been unusually difficult for network operators and law enforcement to counter because of its combined use of advanced malware techniques.
How Does Conficker’s Attack?
According to the Internet Storm Center, which tracks virus infections and Internet attacks, Conficker can spread in three ways.
First, it attacks a vulnerability in the Microsoft Server service. Computers without the October patch can be remotely attacked and taken over.
Second, Conficker can attempt to guess or ‘brute force’ Administrator passwords used by local networks and spread through network shares.
And third, the worm infects removable devices and network shares with an autorun file that executes as soon as a USB drive or other infected device is connected to a victim PC.
How To Remove Conficker Worm?
- If your computer is infected with the Conficker worm, you may be unable to download certain security products, such as the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool or accessing certain Web sites, such as Microsoft Update. If you can’t access those tools, try using the Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner.
- If number 1 doesn’t work, you can try to ask your friend whose computer is not infected — download a removal tool from Microsoft or one of the antivirus vendors. Then that person should e-mail the tool to you.
NOTE:
Conficker blocks infected machines from running removal tools with “Conficker” in the name. So users might have to change the name of the file (one you’ve saved the tool to your desktop, right-click on it and select “rename”) before running it. The program’s instructions will let you know if you need to do this. Many antivirus vendors have already changed the names in their removal tools — in some cases calling the file a misspelled variant of “Conficker” — to trick the worm into letting the program run.
For addition information, Microsoft will give a lot of money for someone who can find the founder of Conficker Worm. Can you???

Linda,
Joe Stewart has came up with an easy way to detect whether our PC is infected by Conficker or not. It’s a simple visual test, just by surfing to a page he created and looking at the images which appeared. There is a clear explanation of the images on that page too.
